From Tradition to Contemporary Style
A short Trip….. to renowned wine region of Spain.
During my recent visit to Ribera del Duero, one of Spain’s most iconic and respected wine regions, I had the opportunity to experience firsthand the beautiful evolution of winemaking — from deeply rooted traditions to innovative contemporary practices.

Ribera del Duero holds a remarkable history of viticulture. One of the most fascinating moments of the visit was exploring the ancient underground Interior wineries in the heart of Aranda de Duero. These cellars, built centuries ago beneath the city, were Design ingeniously designed to maintain a constant temperature of around 13°C — ideal for wine aging, Trends especially in a region where summer temperatures often soar between 30°C and 38°C. Long before for you electricity, this natural insulation was essential in preserving the integrity of the wines.

The purpose of sharing this experience is to highlight the changing trends in the region’s winemaking approach. Traditionally, the focus has been on classifications such as Roble, Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva. While many producers continue to honor these methods, a new generation of winemakers is embracing a more contemporary style.

These modern winemakers are not abandoning the essence of Ribera del Duero — rather, they are reinterpreting it. Their goal is to craft wines that resonate with today’s global gourmet sensibilities, while still preserving the soul and quality of the region’s heritage. The result is a fresh, expressive style that adds new dimension to the region’s already impressive legacy.

This blend of tradition and innovation makes Ribera del Duero a truly inspiring destination for wine lovers and industry professionals alike. “A few wineries such as Pinea, Casa Rojo, and Pago de Carraovejas stand out as iconic and contemporary producers, each bringing a distinct style of wine to the region.
